Creating with my pets
Friday/06/2011 June
As an artist, I need my focus and concentration, to work without distraction. Every day our dogs, Nemo, Abbey, and Rosie somehow get into trouble. Letting them out in our back yard can be a great distraction. Everyone who walks past our house will be barked at. I can hear it from my studio.
My neighbor Andy, likes to putter around his house next door. When this happens, the dogs start barking, It’s not a mean bark, they are saying hello to Andy and looking for attention.
I stop what I’m doing, go downstairs to break up the commotion. This may happen three times a day when I let them out. It’s a distraction but I’m not complaining because my wife Kathy, breeds and shows Kerry Blue Terriers. She loves her dogs and when she is happy, I am happy.
Terriers, as some of you may know, is a dog that is very curious, not a lap dog, they were primarily bred to catch vermin on farms. As house dogs, they will get into trouble like going after Kathy’s knitting. They are somewhat needy when it comes to affection and are constantly looking to be petted.
Every puppy begins in joy and ends in tears. Nemo is twelve years and I fear the day when he passes. As far as I'm concerned there are two downsides to having a dog. The first is when you finally lose them, and the second, an ongoing problem, is what to do with them when they can't travel with you. Lining up trusted dog sitters is vital.
Having said that, a dog will not increase your studio hours or be your muse. They do help in the quality of life. Art is not everything. As I mention often about being creative,

Advice to artist starting a blog

Choosing a good domain name for your blog or website is vital. Why? Because the domain name is the corner stone of your online brand. People will link to your site using your domain, your search engine results will contain your domain and so on. This is why I changed my blog from Blogger using Artlife to my own domain name, DailyPaintersBlog.com
I have com
mitted my self to this discipline of a painting a day for a long time to come. I know it is a niche, and that’s good, because search engines will rank all the popular painting websites and blogs first. My Daily Painters niche may show up on the first page.
On the other hand, creating niche websites is not a bad idea per se, but you must be aware that they have limited potential. If you want to create a business out of your website or blog, then the domain name must not limit you to a small niche or market segment.
With dailypaintersblog.com, Im limited to this niche and can only go so far with limitations as a daily painter,

Starting a Blog is like talking to yourself.

Starting a blog is like talking to your self. I moved my blog from Blogger to my own domain, www.dailypainterblog.com. Now I feel I own my blog. If someone would come around and be kind enough to comment. Excuse me, I have to check if the door is open to this blog.
